Aleana Practice Hand

How to use

After choosing the right size tips for each nail, spray a little IPA70% on the back of each tip. This will help for better gliding when inserting a nail tip into the relevant finger canal of your practice hand. Push the tip into the deep canal as far as it will comfortably go and until it feels firmly in place and is ready to be used. Once done, you can perform any technique: nail art, acrylic nails, gel nails, etc. The practice hand is adapted for use under LED and UV lamps.

After finishing, simply remove the tips. Inject (spray) a little water in between the tips and the silicone for better glide, and an easier removal.

Care

Use soap and water (cold or hot) to clean the silicone surface. If the surface is heavily soiled, you can also use a soft brush.

If necessary, you can disinfect the silicone surface with Isopropyl alcohol (IPA70%).

For the models with an embedded magnet, it is important to ensure that the magnet does not make contact with any water. You many dip other areas of the hand into water in order to clean it. To clean the side where the magnet is housed, please wipe around the area carefully with a wet wipe or damp cloth and dry immediately.

If the gel polish, base or top, catches onto the surface of the silicone, just wipe it off using nail cleaner. You can also remove it from the surface after baking it under the UV/LED lamp.

Attention:

Do not bend the fingers into an abnormal position. Bend the built-in armature in the fingers with care without making any sudden repeated, or unnatural, movements (flexion-extension).

Do not apply any type of oil (including cuticle oil) to the silicone surface. This will make the surface shiny.

Do not cut silicone, especially the fine cuticle area. You can damage the practice hand doing this.

Avoid contact between the silicone surface and your nail file and/or nail bit when filing the acrylic tips or else you can ruin the paint and damage the external layer of silicone. We advise that you create the tips’ shape away from your practice hand before inserting them into the fingers to prevent silicone surface abrasion

Material compatibility

Do not immerse your hand in acetone. This will deform your practice hand and will make the silicone brittle.

You can wipe the silicone surface with Isopropyl alcohol (IPA70%).

FormsFix

FormsFix application Instructions

  1. Select the correct size of FormsFix
  2. Plug in the heat gun, retract the metal stand and set it aside. Don’t turn it on yet.
  3. Cut the long FormsFix sleeve between the Aleana Hand logo prints, this will ensure the perfect size for a stable fit. Place the remaining FormsFix sleeve away from your working space to avoid accidental contact with hot air.
  4. Slide the individual FormsFix you cut onto the silicone finger positioning the sealed edges on the sides of the finger.
  5. Ensure to leave 3mm of the FormsFix below the cuticle, protruding onto the nail. The FormsFix material shrinks during the heating step, it will become shorter and the edge of the material will end just above the cuticle after the heating step is complete.
  6. Turn on the heat gun and start heating the FormsFix from the back of the fingers. Palm side up when working on a hand.
  7. Next, heat the sides of the FormsFix, the sealed edges.
  8. Lastly, heat the FormsFix at the front of the finger (the side of nail tips facing up.) Palm side down when working on a hand.Heat carefully and direct the hot air flow away from the nail tips, prolonged exposure of hot air or too close proximity to nail tips to may deform them.
  9. Switch the heat gun off and set it aside on the metal stand retracted earlier.Do not touch the nozzle as it will become very hot.
  10. Fit the nail forms and enjoy your practice!
  11. After you finished, gently pull the FormsFix and dispose of it. FormsFix is 100% recyclabl

How to measure ring size:

1. Get a piece of string or cut up a thin piece of paper and wrap it around your finger firmly. (make sure the paper/string sits very firm on your finger, how you would want the ring to fit; that means it should not be loose and not extremely tight)

2. Mark the string or piece of paper to get the circumference (in mm)

3. Lay the string or paper down against a ruler to measure the circumference (in mm)

4. Please use the table above to measure your circumference (in mm) against the US sizing column (All rings are specified in standard US sizes.)

5. Please choose the ring size that is closest to your circumference if you are in-between sizes.

If you have an existing ring
Alternatively, please measure the internal diameter if your current ring and use the chart to measure inside diameter against US sizing.

Tips:

  • Please measure your finger when they are warm as cold fingers will measure smaller.

Jewellery care

Fashion jewellery (including plated, 925 Sterling Silver and expensive Jewellery brands) can experience normal wear and tear over time. To extend the life of your jewellery, please give them occasional breaks and to keep them away from any moisture and creams.

Please follow these tips to maintain the quality and prevent early tarnish:

  • Avoid sweat
  • Keep them in your dust bag when not in use
  • Wipe with soft cloth
  • Do not sleep in your jewellery
  • Avoid chemicals (especially hand cream)
  • Avoid bathing, showering or washing your hands with jewellery on
  • Wait for hand/face cream to dry before putting on any jewellery
  • Apply a layer of polymer coating/clear nail varnish on the inside of your rings

How to avoid the Green Finger

IMPORTANT: When accessorising your practice hands, get some clear nail polish and apply a layer of nail varnish to the inside of your rings to form a protective barrier between the ring metals and your practice fingers’ skin. This will help prevent any green oxidation marks.

IMPORTANT: Traces of copper will be found in Gold/Rose Gold plating as this contributes to the colouring of the metal. In some extreme cases of sensitive, highly acidic skin, you may experience some oxidisation (slight greening). The other main cause of oxidisation is chemicals found in hand creams. This is in fact a common trait in even the finest of jewellery.

If you are allergic or sensitive to metals or have had green tainting before then you are likely to experience the same reaction.

All 925 Sterling Silver contains 92.5% sterling silver and 6.5% copper which may be a better option for you if have had green tainting before.

We take no responsibility or liability for any reactions that may take place; It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure all precautions are taken as we are unable to know each individual's allergies and sensitivities.

Metal Sensitivity Guide

Green Finger.

What is this phenomenon and why does it happen when wearing certain types of jewellery? Contrary to popular belief, the ring of skin that turns green underneath a piece of jewellery doesn’t occur due to the poor quality of the ring, nor is it harmful. It is a perfectly normal, yet rare, response to certain materials within the jewellery, and can appear when wearing fine expensive jewellery just as much as with more affordable options. But how does it work, and how can it be prevented?

Why does my finger turn green?

The patch of skin in contact with a ring turns green when the materials oxidise. This means they react to the pH levels of your skin and create a tarnish, which then leaves a stain on the skin. People who happen to have a higher acidic pH within their skin tend to experience this phenomenon more often and, whilst rare, it’s worth knowing what to do when such an instance arises.

Another common culprit is the chemicals in your hand creams which will cause the metal to oxidise even if your skin is not sensitive to metals.

The most common ingredient in any piece of jewellery that causes this scenario is copper. Copper is a useful alloy (stabilising material) that is combined with silver or gold-plated jewellery in order to secure the shape and consistency of the piece. Pure gold and silver are naturally too soft to work with, and therefore must be alloyed (stabilised) with other materials in order to create a secure, good-quality piece of jewellery. For example, the 925 sterling silver jewellery is composed of 92.5% silver, and 7.5% copper (hence, the number 925). This formula results in the highest quality silver jewellery, and is used by high-end brands as well as more affordable fashion jewellery brands, and therefore it must never be assumed that a trace of copper equals poor quality. Quite the contrary, it makes your jewellery stronger.

What can I do to prevent my skin turning green?

If you are one of the few people who experience staining when you wear jewellery, there are some steps you can take to prevent such occurrences and better enjoy your accessories.

  1. Keep the area dry

Take off your rings before you wash your hands, shower, or go swimming. Damp skin can often expedite the process of oxidation and cause a more noticeable green stain on your skin. If you are going swimming, it’s especially important to remove your jewellery, as the chlorine will leave a green stain and also damage your jewellery!

  1. Pay attention with lotions

Chemicals found in lotions can also react to the materials in your jewellery, therefore causing a darker stain on your skin. Make sure the lotion has absorbed into your skin completely before putting on your rings.

  1. Ask about what materials are in your jewellery

Whilst green staining can happen from many different types of jewellery—both high and low quality, it is true that lower quality jewellery is more likely to cause a stain. Always be aware of what materials are present in your rings, in order to avoid the Green Finger. Stainless steel, 925 sterling silver, platinum, rhodium-plated and gold-plated materials are all made from safe materials that are good for sensitive skin, and yet can still cause some staining. T

  1. Apply a polymer barrier

One of the best and most effective ways to avoid the Green Finger is to apply a polymer barrier to the inner band of your rings. This effectively creates a barrier between the jewellery and your skin, which prevents oxidisation and staining.  A Jewellery Shield product is cheap to buy, and you will need to reapply every few weeks once it has worn away. This is by far the cheapest and most efficient way of reducing Green Finger, without splashing out on expensive solid-gold or solid-platinum accessories!

  1. Try clear nail polish

If in dire immediate need, another alternative to a polymer barrier is clear nail polish. Just as with a polymer barrier, you can apply a layer of nail varnish to the inside of your rings in order to form some protection between the metals and your skin. This method is less effective, however, and can also change the appearance of your jewellery.

What do I do to treat a green finger?

Knowing how to avoid jewellery staining is useful, but you’re probably reading this article because you have already fallen prey to the unfortunate Green Finger. What can you do to remove the staining?

The first and most obvious step is to remove the stain by scrubbing your skin with soap and warm water. Use a nailbrush to provide a little more friction.

If this doesn’t work, you can also use make-up remover or rubbing alcohol for more stubborn stains. Wipe over the affected area with some cotton, and then rinse of with warm water and soap.

For particularly dark and troublesome stains, you may also use a non-acetone nail varnish remover. Again, use a cotton pad to apply gently over the stain, and rinse with soap and warm water. This method should be your last option however, and should not be used on a regular basis, as it is harsher on the skin and can cause dryness.

By taking precautionary steps and proper care of your jewellery, you can say goodbye to unsightly stains and marks. Remember that green staining is not necessarily due to the jewellery being ‘fake’ or cheap, but can happen with even the highest quality brands!

Are there any options for sensitive skin?

If you know you have sensitive skin and have had a reaction with either copper, brass, 925 sterling silver, Gold-plated, Palladium/Rhodium plated jewellery - you are likely to have the same reaction again.

It is recommended that you opt for solid gold jewellery instead.

What is cubic zirconia? How sparkly is cubic zirconia?

What is cubic zirconia?

Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is the ultimate diamond alternative with many of the same qualities. CZ mimics a diamond however is beautiful in its own right, producing more flashes of color & shine (known as fire) than a diamond.

CZ is in fact heavier than a diamond of the same size and due to its incredible visual similarities is often misrepresented as a pure diamond.

How sparkly is cubic zirconia?

AAA cubic zirconia used for the standard range which is great for fashion jewellery and have a lot of luster and shine.

AAAAA cubic zirconia used for the big stone / crushed ice range, which is considered the very best and have the luminosity of real diamonds!

Does CZ shine in the dark?

No, there needs to be a light source for CZ to shine, just like real diamonds need a light source for it to shine. Depending on the cut, they will shine in low light (such as the brilliant round cut).

Tip: When you receive your jewellery, turn on your lights, go outside if it is bright or shine your phone torch on it to see how amazingly sparkly they are!

Will my fingers turn green? / I have sensitive skin

This entirely depends on each individual.

If you have highly sensitive skin, we advise caution to anyone wearing any kind of metals on their skin for prolonged periods. If you are aware that you have sensitive skin and are prone to reactions or have had green skin tarnishing before we advise you not to purchase fashion jewellery and we take no responsibility or liability for any reactions that may take place; It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure all precautions are taken as we are unable to know each individual's allergies and sensitivities.

All gold plated rings will have traces of copper as this contributes to the colour (Yellow Gold and Rose Gold). If you have had greening before we highly suggest you purchase 925 Sterling Silver instead of gold plated rings. The metal composition will be stated on the product page, please read it carefully before purchasing.

If you decide you want to purchase the brass version (gold plated rings) and if your hands are high in acidity, you may experience some oxidisation (slight greening). (Please note that another culprit is the chemicals present in hand cream which can react with your jewellery so you must let your skin dry before putting on any jewellery). This is common with even high-end jewellery. If this is the case for you, you may wish to go for 925 Sterling Silver jewellery. Alternatively, you can prevent oxidisation by adding a layer of clear nail varnish or polymer coating inside the ring.

We are unable to refund you if your skin turns green as this entirely depends on the individual.
